OUR ALCOHOL POLICY

International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  is committed to ensuring that a safe environment is created for both working personnel and patrons attending the event. To this end, a responsible alcohol and drinking policy (this document) has been produced. This document will be revised and updated in the planning process and any key changes will be conveyed to all participants.


ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  should be an enjoyable experience for both visitors and exhibitors.


In line with licensing legislation and as alcohol is being served and sold onsite, the organisers are keen to promote compliance from all staff and exhibitors onsite with the following Alcohol Policy.


All exhibitors and kitchen participants will be made aware of this policy which will be contained within the manuals and everyone will be expected to comply as part of their agreement. Any participant not operating in line with the policy is set by the Organisers of International Cheese & Dairy Expo /  ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  may be asked to leave site and/or jeopardize their participation in the event.


The general sale of alcohol in open vessels for consumption off site is strictly not permitted.

  • Visitors will be stopped from leaving site with any drinks, appropriate waste bins and stewards shall be positioned at the exits. 
  • All drinks sold for onsite consumption at the event shall be done so into appropriate receptacles.
  • Where drinks are poured from glass bottles (namely wine and beer) at the various bar areas, a plan will be established for recycling of glass waste.


Our alcohol policy will be communicated to all staff working in the various exhibition and kitchen areas. It is suggested that exhibitors display a copy within the bar/ exhibition and kitchen areas to ensure no ambiguity with interpretation of the policy.


Alcohol can only be served:


  • If the appointed Personal Licence holder is present at the bar to authorise the sale of alcohol.
  • During the event open hours and must stop 30 minutes before the end of each day.
  • All service must be into appropriate vessels - no plastic can be given to customers in any circumstances.
  • For consumption on site - bars are not allowed to sell alcohol for customers to consume off site.
  • If all the conditions of the premises licence are being fulfilled at all times. 


Licensing

The organisers of International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  are familiar with the below legal points and their duties under the Licensing Act 2003 with specific regard to the Licensing objectives - Protection of Children from harm and the prevention of public nuisance.


The following will be communicated throughout each of the sessions at the event:


  • It is a criminal offence to sell any alcohol to children under the age of 18.
  • Notices shall be placed at all points of sale detailing the restrictions on sales of alcohol to children.
  • It is a criminal offence to knowingly sell or serve alcohol to a person who is drunk or appears to be drunk.
  • It is a criminal offence to sell or serve alcohol to the companion of a person who is drunk for the drunken persons consumption.
  • All alcoholic drinks shall have their ABV clearly displayed.
  • The challenge 25 policy shall be implemented at all bar and kitchen areas where the sale of alcohol is being carried out and appropriate signage will need to be displayed.
  • An effective visual (and/or aural) reminder shall be in place at all points of sale to ensure staff undertake appropriate age checks on any potential sale or supply of alcohol.
  • No irresponsible promotion of the sale or sampling of alcohol.
  • Free portable water is made available on request from customers.
  • All drinks being offered for consumption should be clearly priced and correct measures advertised. As a minimum beer and cider must be available in half pint measures, spirits as 25ml or 35ml and wine as 125ml.
  • The only acceptable form of identification concerning the issue of age should be a citizen card, photographic driving licence or passport.
  • A record of refusals shall be maintained which documents every instance that a sale or supply of alcohol is refused on the premises, indicating the date and time the refusal was made, and the member of staff making the refusal.
  • The record of refusals shall be available for inspection by authorised officers of the licensing authority, officers of the trading standards service, and officers of the Police.
  • All drinks that are sampled should be in the correct measures (wine sample - 30ml, beer/ cider sample - 50ml, spirit sample - 5ml).
  • All staff that undertake the sale or supply of alcohol shall receive appropriate training in relation to undertaking appropriate age checks on such, before being allowed to sell or supply any alcohol.
  • Records of all staff training, relating to the sale or supply of alcohol, along with any training material used, will be kept and maintained by the Designated Premises Supervisor or the Premises Licence Holder.
  • Staff training records shall be available for inspection by authorised officers of the licensing authority, officers of the trading standards service, and officers of the Police.


The Organisers of International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  commit to ensuring that exhibitors operating a bar adopt the following policies and procedures throughout the operational period of the event:


  1. International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  will not tolerate any rude or abusive behaviour.
  2. International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE exhibitors have the right to refuse to serve alcohol at their own discretion.
  3. Ensuring that all prices for drinks sold for consumption off site are clearly marked.
  4. Ensuring that the size of measures being sold is clearly displayed.
  5. Ensuring that the correct measure is served. Either measuring the volume before pouring into a glass or having the correct measure displayed in the glass for service.
  6. Visitors who consume drinks bought from exhibitors onsite will have these drinks confiscated and this will be bought to the attention of an exhibitor who will receive a final warning before being advised they can only continue sampling drinks with no further sales allowed.
  7. International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  does not allow the sampling of any drinks in plastic vessels.
  8. All drinks exhibitors will be issued with this responsible alcohol policy prior to the show and will be required to comply with the conditions outlined in this policy.
  9. Pricing of drinks sold for offsite consumption is at the exhibitor’s discretion - but International Cheese & Dairy Expo / ICDA AWARDS & LOVE CHEESE LIVE  will not allow any promotion that encourages bulk purchases for consumption or deemed excessive.
